The Veil Nebula is around 2,100 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Cygnus (The Swan), and is the visible part of the Cygnus Loop, debris of a supernova created 10,000 years ago by the death of a giant star. The shockwaves from the massive cataclysmic energy burst sculpted the nebula's delicate threads of ionized gas creating a cyclone shape of extraordinary astronomical beauty. In this image of a portion of the nebula, you can see enhanced details of emissions from doubly ionized oxygen (blues), ionized hydrogen, and ionized nitrogen (reds).
